The government is set to release the names of rogue public servants today, following the completion of a nationwide payroll audit that has revealed widespread irregularities.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku made the announcement during an interview on TV47 on September 16, 2025, confirming that the audit findings will be presented to his office before the end of today (September 17, 2025).
"I have the experts who have been doing the payroll audit, and they will be coming to my office to do a presentation. There are issues, and I want to tell you that there are people who will suffer," said Ruku
According to the CS, the audit uncovered alarming cases of double and even triple salary payments to some individuals. He warned that stern action will be taken against public officers who have violated government regulations.
Ruku also issued a warning to civil servants who report to work late or leave shortly after arrival, saying such workers would be treated as “ghost workers.”
"A ghost worker is anyone who arrives late at work, comes and leaves after 20 minutes, or arrives too early just to disappear. That is also a ghost worker, and that is why I ordered a payroll audit," he stated.
The CS praised the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Immigration Department as standout performers, noting their consistency and compliance with performance standards.
He further cautioned members of the public against offering bribes in exchange for government jobs, warning that those individuals would face serious consequences.
In a move aimed at enhancing transparency, the government is also developing a digital platform to monitor the attendance and performance of public servants in real time.
"We are in the process of coming up with a digital platform to ensure that public service output is monitored closely and uphold accountability in government offices," Ruku added.
The platform will help track individual employee performance and ensure greater accountability across all sectors of the public service.
